Egypt T-bill auction, 10 May 2011: 364-day at 12.88%, up 6 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 10 May 2011, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 11.56% (up 12 basis points), the 182-day bill at 12.56% (up 12 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 12.88% (up 6 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 14.8bn against EGP 7.5bn on offer, 197% of the amount sought, and EGP 6.8bn was accepted.
At 12.88%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 42 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 10.31%, so the government is paying 257 basis points more than twelve months ago.
