Egypt T-bill auction, 30 December 2008: 364-day at 11.58%, up 3 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 30 December 2008, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 11.63% (up 19 basis points), the 182-day bill at 11.71% (up 17 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 11.58% (up 3 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 9.4bn against EGP 6.0bn on offer, 157% of the amount sought, and EGP 6.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 5.62% to 14.80%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 7.39%, so the government is paying 419 basis points more than twelve months ago.
