Egypt T-bill auction, 26 August 2008: 364-day at 12.84%, up 43 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 26 August 2008, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 12.12% (up 53 basis points), the 182-day bill at 12.99% (up 52 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 12.84% (up 43 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
The auction was fully subscribed: bids totalled EGP 7.6bn against EGP 5.5bn on offer, 138% of the amount sought, and EGP 5.0bn was accepted.
At 12.84%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 50 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 8.21%, so the government is paying 463 basis points more than twelve months ago.
