Egypt T-bill auction, 22 January 2008: 364-day at 7.00%, down 42 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 22 January 2008, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 6.34% (down 44 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 7.00% (down 42 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 3.9bn against EGP 1.0bn on offer, 387% of the amount sought, and EGP 1.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 6.82% to 10.00%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 10.19%, so the government is paying 319 basis points less than twelve months ago.
