Egypt T-bill auction, 8 May 2007: 91-day at 6.96%, down 29 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 8 May 2007, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 6.96% (down 29 basis points) and the 182-day bill at 7.13% (down 16 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 7.5bn against EGP 3.0bn on offer, 250% of the amount sought, and EGP 3.0bn was accepted.
At 6.96%, the 91-day rate is the lowest in the 43 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 91-day bill cleared at 8.56%, so the government is paying 160 basis points less than twelve months ago.
