Egypt T-bill auction, 19 September 2006: 364-day at 9.56%, up 17 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 19 September 2006, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 9.21% (up 15 basis points), the 182-day bill at 9.39% (up 22 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 9.56% (up 17 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 6.1bn against EGP 3.0bn on offer, 204% of the amount sought, and EGP 3.0bn was accepted.
At 9.56%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 42 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 9.29%, so the government is paying 28 basis points more than twelve months ago.
