Egypt T-bill auction, 25 July 2006: 364-day at 8.97%, down 7 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 25 July 2006, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 8.86% (down 1 basis point), the 182-day bill at 8.97% (up 2 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 8.97% (down 7 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 6.6bn against EGP 4.0bn on offer, 165% of the amount sought, and EGP 3.2bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 8.08% to 9.99%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 8.79%, so the government is paying 18 basis points more than twelve months ago.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
