Egypt T-bill auction, 11 July 2006: 364-day at 8.98%, up 9 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 11 July 2006, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 8.86% (unchanged), the 182-day bill at 8.95% (up 1 basis point) and the 364-day bill at 8.98% (up 9 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 7.6bn against EGP 4.0bn on offer, 189% of the amount sought, and EGP 4.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 8.08% to 9.99%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 8.39%, so the government is paying 59 basis points more than twelve months ago.
