Egypt T-bill auction, 20 December 2005: 364-day at 8.77%, up 5 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 20 December 2005, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 8.57% (down 24 basis points), the 182-day bill at 8.57% (down 11 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 8.77% (up 5 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 11.3bn against EGP 4.2bn on offer, 270% of the amount sought, and EGP 4.2bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 8.17% to 11.07%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 10.96%, so the government is paying 219 basis points less than twelve months ago.
