At the Treasury bill auction dated 23 December 2003, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 182-day bill at 7.21% (unchanged). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled EGP 940m against EGP 1.6bn on offer, 59% of the amount sought, and EGP 740m was accepted.
Over the past year the 182-day rate has ranged from 5.24% to 14.35%.
A year earlier the 182-day bill cleared at 6.45%, so the government is paying 76 basis points more than twelve months ago.
