At the Treasury bill auction dated 5 August 2003, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 182-day bill at 9.66% (down 26 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 3.1bn against EGP 1.0bn on offer, 305% of the amount sought, and EGP 1.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 182-day rate has ranged from 5.24% to 14.35%.
A year earlier the 182-day bill cleared at 7.62%, so the government is paying 204 basis points more than twelve months ago.
