Kenya T-bill auction, 30 December 2024: 91-day at 9.895%, down 6 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 30 December 2024, the Central Bank of Kenya cleared the 91-day bill at 9.895% (down 6 basis points), the 182-day bill at 10.022% (unchanged) and the 364-day bill at 11.409% (down 13 basis points).
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled KES 4.9bn against KES 24.0bn on offer, a subscription rate of 20%. The government accepted KES 4.8bn, or 99% of what was bid.
The 91-day paper drew the most interest relative to its size, at 56% subscribed.
At 9.895%, the 91-day rate is the lowest in the 52 auctions of the past year.

Put KES 100,000 into the 364-day bill at this auction and you get back KES 109,698 after 12 months: KES 9,698 in interest after 15% withholding tax (KES 11,410 before), about KES 808 a month.
