Kenya T-bill auction, 18 July 2022: 91-day at 8.248%, up 8 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 18 July 2022, the Central Bank of Kenya cleared the 91-day bill at 8.248% (up 8 basis points), the 182-day bill at 9.305% (up 5 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 9.986% (up 1 basis point).
The auction was fully subscribed: bids totalled KES 25.4bn against KES 24.0bn on offer, a subscription rate of 106%. The government accepted KES 25.3bn, or 100% of what was bid.
The 91-day paper drew the most interest relative to its size, at 330% subscribed.
At 8.248%, the 91-day rate is the highest in the 52 auctions of the past year.

Put KES 100,000 into the 364-day bill at this auction and you get back KES 108,488 after 12 months: KES 8,488 in interest after 15% withholding tax (KES 9,986 before), about KES 707 a month.
