Kenya T-bill auction, 19 August 2019: 91-day at 6.355%, down 9 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 19 August 2019, the Central Bank of Kenya cleared the 91-day bill at 6.355% (down 9 basis points), the 182-day bill at 7.052% (down 10 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 9.195% (up 4 basis points).
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled KES 20.8bn against KES 24.0bn on offer, a subscription rate of 87%. The government accepted KES 20.8bn, or 100% of what was bid.
The 364-day paper drew the most interest relative to its size, at 151% subscribed.
At 6.355%, the 91-day rate is the lowest in the 52 auctions of the past year.

Put KES 100,000 into the 364-day bill at this auction and you get back KES 107,816 after 12 months: KES 7,816 in interest after 15% withholding tax (KES 9,195 before), about KES 651 a month.
