Kenya T-bill auction, 9 October 2017: 91-day at 8.129%, unchanged
At the Treasury bill auction dated 9 October 2017, the Central Bank of Kenya cleared the 91-day bill at 8.129% (unchanged), the 182-day bill at 10.319% (unchanged) and the 364-day bill at 10.975% (up 2 basis points).
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled KES 15.2bn against KES 24.0bn on offer, a subscription rate of 63%. The government accepted KES 13.2bn, or 87% of what was bid.
The 91-day paper drew the most interest relative to its size, at 122% subscribed.
Over the past year the 91-day rate has ranged from 7.696% to 8.779%.

Put KES 100,000 into the 364-day bill at this auction and you get back KES 109,329 after 12 months: KES 9,329 in interest after 15% withholding tax (KES 10,975 before), about KES 777 a month.
