Kenya T-bill auction, 7 December 2015: 91-day at 9.218%, up 1 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 7 December 2015, the Central Bank of Kenya cleared the 91-day bill at 9.218% (up 1 basis point), the 182-day bill at 10.558% (up 47 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 12.212% (up 28 basis points).
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled KES 13.2bn against KES 16.0bn on offer, a subscription rate of 83%. The government accepted KES 10.4bn, or 79% of what was bid.
The 91-day paper drew the most interest relative to its size, at 174% subscribed.
Over the past year the 91-day rate has ranged from 8.124% to 22.492%.

Put KES 100,000 into the 364-day bill at this auction and you get back KES 110,380 after 12 months: KES 10,380 in interest after 15% withholding tax (KES 12,212 before), about KES 865 a month.
That is KES 236 more than the same money would have earned at the previous auction.
