Kenya T-bill auction, 14 April 2014: 91-day at 8.825%

At the Treasury bill auction dated 14 April 2014, the Central Bank of Kenya cleared the 91-day bill at 8.825%.

The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled KES 1.2bn against KES 3.0bn on offer, a subscription rate of 40%. The government accepted KES 1.2bn, or 100% of what was bid.

Over the past year the 91-day rate has ranged from 5.110% to 10.498%.

The Central Bank’s minimum bid is KES 100,000, and the government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Kenya’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
